Break the Barriers

We all have barriers in life. Some are physical, some are mental, some emotional and some spiritual. When we were young we wanted others to help us break through those barriers. But there comes a time in life when the only thing others can do is lead us to the barrier. We then must break through on our own-no one else can do it for you. One of the most notable is recorded in the Book of Romans.

Romans 10:8-10: But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Someone can speak God's Word to us. Someone can explain the new birth process. Someone can take us right to the door, but only we can walk through. Only we can break through the barrier from natural man to being born again of God's spirit. Remember, God has no grandchildren; everyone is a direct descendant. God provided the plan and Christ made it available, but we must push through.

There are many different barriers in life, but breaking through is basically the same for all. Financially people talk about the $100,000.00 income barrier and how breaking through this level is a major step forward. Then there is the barrier of earning your first million. They say that this is the hardest, but after that, earning your second million is easy.

There are also mental barriers like how you see yourself and what you think you can do. We also face self-imposed barriers concerning our spiritual growth and development. It is important to note that if we allow ourselves to be intimidated and do not make the decision to break through a barrier, it will soon become a ceiling on our lives. I do not believe there should be any limit on life and with God, we should be able to do all that we desire to do.

So let's take a look at some barriers.

Do you think there were any barriers concerning the birth of Christ? Did Mary face a barrier when the angel told her she was chosen? Could anyone do it for her? The angel told her what was available. God wanted her to do it, all of creation needed her to do it, but it was up to Mary. When she said, "…be it unto me according to thy word" she broke through the barrier. Now, do you think there were other barriers to overcome?

We can look back and say that this was a no-brainer for Joseph, but from where he stood, it was a huge barrier to accept a wife who was already pregnant and it wasn't the only one he faced.

Only Joseph could accept Mary as his wife after she was already pregnant. Only Joseph could make the decision to believe what God had shown him in a dream to leave immediately and go into Egypt so that Herod wouldn't kill Jesus. He had to face those barriers and break through.

Now, what about Jesus Christ?

Christ made the decision to give up his life. The angel encouraged him, but he had to break through this barrier and what a barrier it was. By doing it, Christ set a standard for us and an example to follow.

Hebrews 4:15 and 16: For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

If Christ broke through his barriers, we can follow the same path and with God overcome our obstacles. Life is full of obstacles, full of barriers, but we are called to reign in life by Christ Jesus-so no matter what it takes, we can go through every barrier we face.

Psalm 18:29: For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

So don't allow the barriers stop you, break through and find your victory.
