Lets face it - most small businesses stink at writing sales copy. With an online business (or any business type for that matter) good sales copy is essential to the sales process and maintaining your business presence. When you have poor sales copy potential, customers or clients will hesitate, unsure if they should buy from you. They will feel uneasy, cautious, and not sure if they should trust you. That will kill your sales and your profits. Good sales copy grabs your visitor's attention, gets them interested in reading what you have to say, and makes them feel compelled to purchase from you!

If you can write like this, then you can make good money as a copywriter. Being a copywriter includes writing sales copy, writing articles for websites, writing marketing articles for article databases, coining tag lines, writing press releases, writing product descriptions, and more. This is a great type of writing to get into, because you can make a whole lot of money, you can quit your current job that you probably hate, and you can make money doing something that you love! If you enjoy writing, but also have a bit of a business or technical side to you, copywriting is the perfect niche-writing career to get into.

You Can Use Mock Work for Your Portfolio, and Then Begin Filling it With Real Work

Begin to market your copywriting business to other businesses online (and offline if you want to). Whether it is a sales page or an ad, all you need to do is learn what works and what doesn't. Study sales letters online that appeal to you and print them off, write them out in your own handwriting to get a 'feel' for them and to help you learn. Scour newspapers for ads that run frequently, these are obviously successful and you can incorporate their style into ads you create. Advertise in local press and by responding to ads telling them how you could improve their response rates.

What businesses will want to know from you when you become successful is how you can benefit their business. What is your average conversion rate? What are past success stories?

This is why it is so important, even when you have completed a job for a client, to stay in touch with them. Ask them how their sales are doing. Ask them if their visitor numbers have increased. Let them tell you about anything that has improved because of your copywriting and get their permission to add their feedback to your own website to show potential clients what you have done for other clients. As you loyal customer base grows your fee can grow too, good copywriters can get up to £15,000 for a sales letter, think about that next time you sit down to write something…
