When you decide you want to make a site there are more options then you may think. You can code each page individually by using applications such as front page and dreamweaver or you can use a content management system (cms). These will make your life a lot easier, especially if your site has thousands of pages. A cms is basically a template which allows the creation of pages much easier then making it and uploading it to your server. A website is made through software such as dreamweaver and a cms is run through the browser making it accessible from anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection.

These are becoming very popular because you have full control of your website, when it comes to designing your website there are thousands of templates which can be freely downloaded, if your feeling confident you can even make your own which will add a sense of uniqueness as no one will have the same design. If you are not able to create a fresh template from scratch you can always download a free template and edit it to make it how you like it.

There are many plugins and additional components which you can use with ease, with most of them you simply download the zip file, upload it to your server in the relevant folder and then activate the plugins through the cms admin.

If you want to create a blog type site with a cms then wordpress is the most popular.
