Dental implants are the base of many modern teeth repairs and replacements in current dentistry. Dental implants can be used in many different ways in the dental field. Some of the implants are used for cosmetic dentistry and some is used for necessary dentistry.

Basically the dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the bone where the root was previously. The implant is the structure that is used to build a tooth around, add a crown, to attach fixed implanted retained bride work, or to secure dentures to.

The implant is attached surgically. Therefore a local anesthetic will be used for numbing. If there is more pain or anxiety, you can talk to your dentist about some simple sedation so that you will not have so much to worry about.

The dental implant acts very much like the root of the tooth that you had. They are the strong area that will hold the tooth in place, in the gums and bones. It is important that this is completed in a sanitary and germ free environment.

There is a natural bonding that will occur with your natural bone structure and the dental implant. This creates an even stronger base for your prosthetic tooth, or teeth.

Your dentist may suggest a dental implant for couple different reasons. Here are the explanations of each of these reasons.

Fixed implanted retained bridgework- with the instance that many teeth need to be replaced due to decay, disease, poor healthy, and immune deficiencies. Your dentist will suggest the fixed implanted retained bridgework. This type of bridgework is secured in two ways, either cement or screwed retained. Remember that these implants can be removed if the need arises. This process can take several visits. Depending on what needs to be done.

Single Crown- a single crown is used with a dental implant when there is one tooth that needs to be replaced. This will secure a long lasting replacement that is sturdy and longer lasting than that of a standard repair. The process for a single crown usually is completed in one to two visits.

Dentures- this complete set of either upper, lower or both sets of teeth. The reason a dental implant is used for a set of dentures is that the dentures have something to hold on to. It makes it easier to eat, drink and clean your dentures with out the loose problems and issues with as much bacteria getting in under the dentures.

Depending on the decay and deterioration of the jawbone is what will help your dentist decide if a dental implant is the best choice and most effective option. Dental implants can be very expensive and in some instanced not the right choice for the repair of the teeth that had to be replaced.

Your dental insurance will usually cover part of this process. Talking to your dentist before the dental implants will help you understand the cost involved. Also, talking to your dental insurance will help you to be prepared for the cost that they do not cover. Sometimes, it is a good idea to space out what is completed to work with the cost of the implants with your insurance coverage.

Dental implants are a great way to boost confidence, build stronger teeth, and a beautiful smile. Even with the cost, the price is worth it for the result you will get.
