If you are reading this, I assume you already got a web site and now are thinking about making it profitable, right? Unless of course from the very beginning you decided that your web site is going to be just a hobby. If it is not just a hobby, you need to think about ways to get visitors to your site that are basically called traffic.

Traffic can be of different types, for example, 404, search engine, and so on. Of course you already realize that some traffic is worth more than others because of its marketability and buying potential. What you really need to concentrate on, is targeted traffic that targets keywords that are present on your web site. For example, if you sell life insurance, you will want visitors that are searching for life insurance, and not for affordable hotels in California.

What you need to get to your web site is targeted traffic. Targeted traffic converts into buyers more easily that any other type of traffic. To get targeted traffic to your web site you can use free advertising or paid advertising. If you are just starting out, I will highly recommend you to do the combination of both. Free advertising still works of course but it will take you so much longer to develop enough popularity of your link and make your site profitable if you use free advertising only.

Some means of free advertising though can be highly effective, such as writing keyword oriented articles and submitting them to free article directories. If you submit at least one or two articles on a weekly basis, your link popularity will grow fast, and you will be getting more free visitors that are really interested in your site and your product or service.

Another very effective way to get your targeted traffic is opt in email direct marketing. You should be very careful with this one. Do a lot of testing and never spam, make sure that when you use this method you adhere to all the spam laws and regulations.

You may also want to try to get paid targeted traffic from sites like 2tillprofit or similar service. Just make sure that you do not spend too much on your paid advertising campaign in the beginning. Test different things and spend wisely. When you start getting profit from your web site, always plan to reinvest a part of your profit in your advertising.

Try several ways of getting targeted traffic to your web site. Always consider a combination of free and paid advertising. Test new methods. You will be surprised how effective something can be for one particular site. What does not work for one site, can be perfect for another, that is why never stop testing new things.
