Holidays and festivities such as Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Eve, etc. are the times wherein friends and family get together and celebrate. For most people, holidays are happy times. However, for burglars, thieves, and other criminals, the holidays are a time for them to do their bad deeds. They see holiday seasons as the perfect opportunity for them to invade your house, steal your valuables, and do you and your family harm. Aside from cash and credit cards, these burglars will be more than happy to take away the new gifts you gained, especially gadgets such as new mobile phones, PDAs, and many more.

In order to prevent being victimized by the said criminals, here are a number of tips that tell you what these people look for in your house that would make them decide to rob you during the holidays:

If burglars see your gifts and valuable items displayed openly on your window sill, they will be tempted to do their crime. They might even resort to smashing your windows for them to be able to get a hold of those items. That is why it is best to place your valuables and gifts in areas that would be out of sight from the passers-by. Burglars would love breaking into a house that has unread mails piled up and lights off for the whole day because those with be the signs that nobody is home. Even if you are away, you can trick people into believing that the house is occupied by installing a light timer that will turn on and off from time to time. Also ask a dear neighbor to take your mails first and keep them while you are away. If you have a spare key, never make the mistake of keeping it under the rug in your front door or in flower pots as thieves and burglars are good at finding spare keys. The best thing for you to do is to leave your spare key first with a neighbor that you trust while you are away.

Even if it is a holiday or you are off to a vacation trip, you should not let your guard down or else you will wake up with your home ransacked and your valuables stolen. Or you might even wake up hurt or not wake up because you were murdered by criminals. That is why you have to focus on home security in order to protect you and your family from the bad minds out there.
