What Your Child Is Really Doing On The Internet - Part Two
While most kids and teens would have you believe that they only use such sites to keep in touch with their friends, there's a dark side that every parent needs to know about.
I'm talking about sex offenders, pedophiles, terrorism, and even potential lawsuits!
You might think this is "over the top" and that it "couldn't happen to me and my family"… but before you make up your mind, consider the following examples:
A news agency investigation in Boise Idaho (May 2006) found that there are many convicted sex offenders actively contacting teenage girls on MySpace. Scariest part? These convicted sex offenders actually have a legal right to contact people on MySpace.
Remember, it's been show that 4% of the general population show signs of being a psychopath… so it's reasonable to assume that 4% of people on MySpace are psychopaths.
How about terrorism? Well in April of 2006, Kansas police arrested five teenage boys after discovering their plans for a "Columbine-Style school massacre". How did police discover their plans? The boys made the plans and discussed them using MySpace.
In March of 2006, six men were arrested after raping a teen girl. The teen girl put together a party for all her MySpace friends, even though she had never met them before.
And in San Antonio, a few kids put up a fake MySpace page for their assistant principle. They labeled her a lesbian, and even used pics from the year book.
Now the parents of the teens are being sued.
It's Time To Wake Up
If you don't know what your child is doing online, your child is at risk, your home is at risk and your entire family is at risk.
If your child posts just one picture… a convicted felon may be able to figure out where you live based on background details (license plates, street signs). Statements that you kids make on MySpace may come back on your head in a court of law.
And with the ever growing number of pedophiles and psychopaths out there, you never know who could be on the hunt for your son or daughter.
It's time to wake up. You need to be aware of what your kids are doing online 100% of the time. The alternative is unthinkable.
