For most people white teeth are a clear indicator of good oral health but, not everyone seems to know the most basic steps in order to remove stains caused by certain types of food and to promote good oral health. Today we are going to mention 5 easy steps that can help you achieve your cosmetic goals and get a more attractive shade of white on your teeth.

-- Using teeth whitening kits

Home tooth whitening kits often contain products that use peroxide as their main ingredient.  The peroxide is a type of bleaching substance that is very effective to remove the stains caused by coffee and other types of food, some kits will provide a brush that you can use in order to apply the peroxide mixture, others will come with a tray that molds to the teeth and it should be used for around 30 to 45 minutes on a daily basis.

-- Using teeth whitening toothpaste

Most toothpastes have ingredients which will help you remove superficial stains in your teeth but, if you want to have the power of the bleaching agents that are available in teeth whitening kits you can have that as well.  Some toothpastes use peroxide and baking soda to wiping your teeth through mild bleaching.

-- Eat an apple

If you want to look for more natural ways to brighten in your smile you can choose to eat an apple a day, apples as well as celery and carrots are known to trigger the production of saliva which helps scrub superficial stains on your teeth and when it comes to tooth health, the more saliva but better.

-- Avoid teeth whitening if you have dental veneers or crowns

This may be the only instance when you hear that teeth whitening kits and procedures may not be appropriate for you, if you choose to use teeth whitening products you may notice different tones and sheets of white between your natural teeth and the veneers and/or crowns.  If you have gone through a restorative procedure now want to achieve a brighter smile it is highly recommended that you get in touch with your dentist first.

-- Quit bad habits

It would be pointless to use toothpastes with baking soda or peroxide, teeth whitening kits and going to the dentist if you're persistent with your bad habits such as smoking.  It is widely known amongst dentists and patients who are concerned about their oral health that individuals who smoke have a higher risk of suffering from serious periodontal diseases that will compromise the overall health of the individual.  Quit bad habits is the most basic step to achieve good oral and overall health.
