Ways To Treat Dry Skin

Prevention is the best way not to have dry skin. However it takes a little time to determine what is causing it. Then you have to find the appropriate way to avoid it. Here are a few treatment options that may help you.

For Very Dry Skin

Use petroleum jelly if you have very dry hands or feet. Just before going to bed at night use a small amount of it on all dry areas of your hands. Then put on a light pair of cotton gloves or socks while you sleep. This will allow the skin to absorb the jelly without making a mess. This can be done as often as you like. Use this same method to treat nails that are overly dry or brittle.

Scratching

Although your skin itches badly the worst thing you can do is scratch it. To avoid the itchiness use a moisturizer that not only treats the dry skin but also treats the itching. Moisturizers are one of the best methods for relieving symptoms of dry skin quickly. It can be applied several times a day if needed.

Mixing warm water with one cup of oatmeal also helps the itching. Place the oatmeal in a cotton cloth and cook it as you normally would. Then place it in your bathtub and use a sponge to place it on your skin. There are a number of products out that have the oatmeal already in it. One cream I recommend is "Aveeno Anti Itch Cream". This cream can be bought over the counter.

There are over the counter medications that can help with dry skin and itching. Try the 1% hydrocortisone cream. However, if the problem is too bad contact your doctor for a stronger prescription.

Dry skin can be treated. It just takes some times to find the best possible solution.
