Did you know that a motorcyclist is more likely to die in an accident than those in other types of vehicle? Accidents are scary. When you are in an accident involving a motorcycle, a scary situation is made even worse.

Nothing is even close to being as thrilling as the rush and excitement of riding a motorcycle. Unfortunately, the high excitement comes with its own list of dangers too. More than three thousand motorcycle accidents resulted in death last year. With sometimes nothing between the driver and the other vehicle to absorb the impact, motorcycle accidents lead to more serious and, sometimes fatal injuries, than those suffered in a normal car or truck accident.

The scary part is that there has been an increase in the number of motorcycle accidents in recent years. What is the reason behind this startling trend?

The major cause of nearly three quarters of all motorcycle accidents lies in the failure of other motorists to properly recognize motorcyclists in heavy traffic or at night. Statistics from leading motorcycle attorney show that nearly 70% of the collisions are a direct result of this. The list of other factors includes poor road conditions, speeding, inadequate riding skills, driving under the influence and undivided roadways.

Motorcycle riders tend to suffer the most from bad road conditions such as potholes, debris, and uneven places. motorcycle lawyers often see a number of cases due to high speeds resulting in accidents too. Driving too fast may displace the alignment of the motorcycle, causing the front end to shake uncontrollably. The driver of the motorcycle then loses control and collides against a stationary object, such as a tree or pole, or another moving vehicle.

Alcohol and drugs are an obvious problem. Nothing is more dangerous than unsafe driving due to impaired judgment. Alcohol turns otherwise careful drivers into dangerous weapons. Never ever attempt to drive a motorcycle or any vehicle for that matter after drinking.

Studies and research done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and backed by top motorcycle accident attorneys maintain that motorist speeding, aggressive driving, and driver inattention are the top three causes of motorcycle accidents every year. Negligence on the part of the motorcyclist themselves are also leading factors behind many accidents or collisions, as well as improper breaking or turning.

Whatever the reason for the accident may have been, it could have been avoided if everyone was a little more careful on the roads. The responsibility of safety is up to the driver, so take it seriously.
