Crystal chandeliers illuminate a room through its beautiful and exquisite lighting elements and surfaces. However, they easily accumulate dust and dirt that is why it must be regularly cleaned in order to preserve the sparkling effect that it has. Cleaning a crystal chandelier can sometimes be a demanding task especially when the lighting fixture is made up of crystals with detailed designs requiring tedious cleaning. But cleaning a crystal chandelier can be made easy and hassle free. Here are some tips that will make this task less overwhelming and more fun.

Things To Work With

The things that you will need in order to carry out this task include at least two containers such as basins, dishpans, double-bowl sink or perhaps, deep trays. You will also be needing detergents or a dishwashing soap. Include gloves of rubber or latex material, towels, washcloths or rags and ammonia or any other glass-cleaning solution.

Steps In Cleaning Your Crystal Chandelier

The first step you should do is to unplug your crystal chandelier from the wall or the ceiling or you can turn off the circuit to which the fixture is attached. To be sure that there is no more current running, try switching the light on. After making sure that there it is already out of power, remove the light bulbs and then set them aside in a safe and soft plane.

Fold the towel and lay in the container that you prepared in order to keep the crystals from getting broken. Fill the container with warm water for about a few inches deep and mix the water with detergent or dish soap until you achieve that sudsy consistency. Pad a larger container with another rag, towel or washcloth and fill it with hot water combined with one-fourth cup of ammonia for that added sparkle effect to the crystal or glass component.

You can now start removing crystal drops from your chandelier but see to it that you only remove a few at a time so that you would not have a hard time reassembling them according to their right order. Soak a washcloth in the sudsy water mixture you made, squeeze excess water out and then wipe down the frames as well as the arms of your lighting fixture.

Put the crystals that you removed in the basin where you made your sudsy water mixture and swish them cautiously. Wipe down the edges if they are mostly soiled and then rinse the crystals with the hot ammonia concoction. Wipe up the crystals with a clean cloth.

After wiping out the crystals, put them back to their original places on the fixture and if you see any piece or wire fitting that is rusty, bent or worn, have it replaced with new ones. Continue with the removing and cleaning of other crystal parts and move only in small sections around the fixture until everything is cleaned.

As for the bulbs, wipe then with squeezed-out soapy cloth and then wipe them dry especially the metal bases then put them back into their respective sockets. Once you've finished cleaning all of the parts, you can now plug it back in and then turn the power on to watch how sparkling your crystal chandelier turned out to be.
