The Arms of a Bar Stool

Bar stools have grown exponentially in popularity of this last 10 years and now there are more styles and designs of bar stools than can be counted.

Bar stools can be made from steel, wood, wrought iron and have some of these features designed to add an extra level of comfort to your seating experience, swivel action, adjustable seats or arm rests.

Although most bar stools have been designed for the working industry such as bars or restaurants, some have a grander design that is only for decoration in ones home or office.

There are the other practical differences when deciding on what barstools to purchase, such as choosing bar stools with arms or without. If you can see past the choices you are going to make and zero in on how you are planning to use the stools, the making the decision on what type and style of stool is so much easier. Consider your options from all sides, how are the bar stools going to be used, are they the restaurant, at home or the bar? If the bar stools are to be used in the restaurant then having arm rests would take up to much space on the table and surrounding areas and actually impede service, where as in the home or bar this wouldn't be so much of a problem as there is room to relax.

However, if your barstools will be in an open area where space isn't an issue such as a bar, living room or study, then the bar stools with arms may be a better choice to consider. When deciding on the bar stool you want to buy, consider if your customers or family will them comfortable. If you can see people using your bar stools in this way, having arms is a choice worth considering. It's always handy to have a place to rest your arm with either having a chat over a beer or a cup of coffee or simply doing a cross word.

The one bad point to bar stools that have arm rests is they tend to restrict movement; this is in comparison to other bar stools that do not have arm rests. Although a swivel design blended into the bar stool alleviates the worry. However, most barstools with arms have stationary seats and this can be a really annoying thing if you are in company in a bar, restaurant or at home and you are finding it difficult to keep up with the conversation because of having to move about so much.

If you're stuck on which style to buy - with arms or without - it's a good idea to let these practical considerations determine your choice. If you don't see any significant reason to get barstools with arms, then don't. You could even save a little money by doing this.
