Bench Jeweler, Jewelry Retailer, Cutter/Faceter, Gemstone Dealer...it doesn't really matter what area of the Jewelry Industry you are involved in...two things important - first and foremost are our customers and our ability to fulfill their every dream; and second is finding a supplier that we trust and that has what we need on hand, when we need it.

In the summer of 2005 came the introduction of a new tool! GemsDB.com! The complete inventories of dozens of gem dealers from around the world - at your fingertips!

The story of GemsDB starts in July of 2005, when an international gem dealer realized that he was getting a lot of inquires for stones that he couldn't always stock. One inquiry for Paraibia Tourmaline got him thinking..."what if there was a database where I could search stones from dealers all over the world?" Intrigued with the idea he then conducted a Google search and found that no such site existed.

The idea refused to go away and led him to pose the question to fellow Gem Dealers in Bangkok and the USA. They too felt the need and were excited about such a project. So the dream of a single Gem Dealer, Ahmed Shareek started to take shape. Working full-time as a Gem Dealer, Mr. Shareek started working every spare minute with his programmers and, three months later, his dream was realized...a working web site!

October 10, 2005 was the official launch of the GemsDB.com website! Success was inevitable, with diverse sellers and the range of goods available, unique buyer protection and no competing sites specializing in gems. Gemstone buyers from all over the world made us their primary gemstone database.

In the early days the website was restricted to the Gem & Jewelry Industry ONLY! Then, in late January of 2006, in order to address individual needs, they introduced two separate means of access...an entry portal for Buyers and a separate one for Sellers.

With the addition of PayPal as the merchant account provider...growth was immediate, hit rates began to grow and by mid year there were just under 100 Registered Sellers. On the 10th of July 2006, GemsDB.com recorded the first sale and with their eyes to the future...the rest is history.

Are you a Jewelry Designer or Jewelry Retailer? Think about this...you have a customer in your shop looking for a two carat Apatite, you pull out your laptop go to www.GemsDB.com, search under Apatite and your customer can see the samples (there are no prices shown, unless you log in) and, with your professional assistance they can choose their own gemstone. All that's left is to help her choose a semi-mount...let her know you will call her tomorrow with a price and a finish date.

Just think you could fill those last minute orders, because you won't have to arrange to see 3 or 4 vendors to pick a stone, there are dozens of vendors from around the world available to you in one place.

If you are a Gemstone Dealer this is a tool that will put your goods in front of professional jewelers, worldwide. GemsDB.com puts your catalog at their fingertips at any hour of the day...so if a jeweler has a customer at 8:00am in New York City, NY asking about a Ceylon Sapphire, you're there; a jeweler serving a small community in Anaheim, CA needs a two carat Emerald for his last customer at 8:00pm, you're there; the Senior Buyer for a major department store in Chicago has a brainstorming meeting at noon, you can be there too.

Best of all? It's FREE to list your entire inventory!

From the involvement of international sellers and their diverse inventories to the GemsDB unique buyer protection plan, it's no surprise that, to date...1200 registered users from around the world have made GemsDB their primary gem database.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Mr. Shareek is constantly thinking of ways to improve the range of services offered on the website. Earlier this year came the introduction of the GemsDB Forum! Visitors can explore topics of interest to Jewelry Professionals and Consumers alike...Marketing and Web Design, Styles and Trends, Employment Announcements, Cutting and Faceting, to Mining Gemstones!

Take a minute and visit GemsDB.com, register and see what they have to offer - and while you are there, make sure to click the Forum link to see the wealth of information available to you from the comfort of your home or office.
