A laptop allows for mobility. In the fast-paced environment that is so common these days, no one can ever do without an efficient access to information wherever he may happen to be. More than having a notebook that has an impressive operating system, it's important to have at least one replacement laptop battery to make sure that you can still continue work even while on the go. It's not enough that you learn to maximize the use of your current battery. Having another one on reserve is just as important as having a spare tire with you when you're on the road.

Buying a replacement battery for your laptop can be a tedious task considering that you must have an odd number of options out in the market. There are various companies who manufacture various kinds of laptop batteries and each of these brands are quick to assure you that they only offer the most efficient output.

A lot of people are inclined to believe that you should only buy your laptop batteries from the manufacturer of your notebook itself. For instance, a Compaq Presario is supposed to only work with a spare battery made by Compaq and you simply can't attain the same efficiency if say, you bought your battery from Hewlett-Packard.

But this isn't necessarily true. If you try to closely examine your laptop, you will find that while the name of one maker is embossed on the case, the unit itself is made of different parts that were produced by different companies. The laptop battery is just one of them. Chances are your battery is manufactured by another company from which your notebook brand outsources a part of its production work. In this case, it's perfectly fine to get a generic replacement battery provided that it's of high quality.

When buying a spare battery, always go for those that offer at least a year warranty. Make it a point to verify the conditions surrounding the warranty so that you're assured that you can have your battery replaced in case you find anything unsatisfactory about it. While batteries from old laptops may be cheaper than brand new ones, there are still many risks involved. For one, you may not be able to maximize the longevity of the battery.

If you're going to buy a battery from the Internet, it goes without saying that you should only transact with trusted websites. It's better if you buy your battery from a company that has an available customer support line. This is one way to determine the quality of their products.

With regards to the type of battery, it's recommended that you go for a Lithium ion replacement battery. This type is perfect for newer laptops, has a better output and is relatively lighter than others. However, make sure that your laptop can handle a LiON battery. Ask a technician or your OEM for more information about this.
