Newsflash, you can overcome a stutter. I was told on numerous occasions that you can not cure a stutter or as some people call it, a stammer. This was relayed to me by various so called professionals including a doctor and a speech therapist. My parents bought me up to think in a positive manner and to believe in myself. This is not always easy to do when you have a speech impediment as one's confidence can be severely dented. I had to believe that one day I would be able to achieve fluency even though many people thought that I should try to accept the fact that I had a stutter and that I would suffer from its affects for the rest of life.

I tried many forms of stuttering therapy, these included group speech therapy classes and also one to one traditional speech therapy. Despite always giving these treatments my very best efforts they did little to help me. I did not have any real confidence that they would ever cure me of this horrible stutter.

After eighteen years of having the speech impediment, the time had come when I decided that enough was enough, I was now going to attempt to find my own cure for stuttering. I was heartened by the fact that I never ever had any form of stutter when I was speaking to myself.

After around a year of trying to find the solution, I finally managed to eradicate the stutter. It was not easy and there were many times when I wanted to give up altogether, I did however stick to it and eventually was rewarded with fluency. Eleven years later I am still speaking without any hint or fear of stuttering.
