The Cadillac SRX is poised for a major restyle about 2011, but could be replaced by a five-passenger BMW X3-size crossover. The Cadillac is primarily designed for Europe. As a new crossover, it will experience a strong transformation of the brand's Art and Science design language. The vehicle has the same architecture with the 2009 Saab 9-4 crossover, which is equipped with top of the line Saab timing belt and replaces the larger 9-7x.

The Caddy and Saab are on a thwart-engine platform along with some part-sharing with the Epsilon - like the Chevy Malibu - platform. The design utilizes familiar Caddy elements such as vertical lighting front and rear, the centerline crease and sheer side surfaces. The hood and tailgate, however, are more domed than on the firm's other vehicles. Pulled back over the tops of the front fenders are the headlamps, and the tailgate wraps around the sides of the vehicle to meet a raked D-pillar. A strong, straight rising crease on the flanks gives an impression of being a wedge.

The new crossover features sewn, soft-touch surfaces for the entire dash and door moldings like those on the second-gen CTS. The new Cadillac will offer a wide range of interior color schemes, as with BMW and Mercedes. In the center of the dial are navigation screen motors upward from the dash, and a speedometer with LCD information screen.

From GM's new direct-injection gas 3.6-liter V-6 is the power for the U.S. version. A two-mode hybrid system will be optional like an E85 version.

As the vehicle is being prepared for global sale, GM is developing a brand-new high-tech "closed loop combustion" diesel V-6 for Europe. Though plans are not yet concrete, it could be made emissions-compliant.

The Cadillac SRX is a luxury crossover SUV that is built on the intent of attracting family-oriented buyers. The current Cadillac SRX midsize luxury SUV is available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive format. Engine choices are a 260-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 or a 320-hp 4.6-liter V8.

With an impressive 41 inches of legroom in the second row, the Cadillac SRX will offer comfort for four 6-foot adults. An optional fold-flat third-row seat is available. However, its 24 inches of legroom is suitable only for the smallest of children. Nevertheless, the third row is ideal for families who occasionally need to carry an extra child or two on short trips.

There is a comprehensive amount of safety and luxury-themed equipment as one would expect from a luxury SUV. A huge, optional sunroof gives the Cadillac SRX a more open feeling for big-sky fans. GM's Magnetic Ride Control is one option that maximizes the ride and handling. It basically changes the performance of the suspension.
