Burgos is a Beautiful City

Burgos is a city of northern Spain. It is one of the nine provinces of the Autonomous Community of Castile and Leon.

The total of almost 160,000 inhabitants lives in the main town.

Burgos was founded in 884 and its historical heritage is always evident to the visitor. It is a monumental town, charming for that so typical medieval northern castilian ambience.

The town grew between the 15th and 16th centuries because of a booming textile trade, which ensured the towns prosperity. This economic boom allowed the town to develop and to construct an impressive number of exceptional monuments and buildings.

A beautiful city to enjoy on foot, wandering along the pretty streets and through the numerous parks and squares.

The city which was the capital of the unified kingdom of Castilla Leon for five centuries, boasts a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture the cathedral of Burgos, declared World Heritage. Burgos still possesses more ecclesiastical monuments than any other Spanish city. although it is worth visiting if youre a big fan of churches. The main feature of the city is the impressive Gothic cathedral which many people claim is Spains greatest.

Great places and delicious varied cuisines on offer. Roast lamb, which is served everywhere in the province, but above all along the river Duero is to die for.

However it is pleasant but low key, with little going on at night. The many businesses, located under the arcades of the old town, the bars and restaurants around the cathedral, but most of all, the many parks and gardens along the banks of the Arlazon provide wonderful scenery for a walking tour of the city.

The best areas for shopping in Burgos are the streets in the centre of the city, around the Cathedral, calles de la Paloma, calle Lain Calvo and Plaza Mayor. You will find plenty of enchanting shops selling souvenirs, silver, books and traditional and artisan products.

To get the most out of your holiday there is a large number of hotels and apartments in Burgos which range from self catering, hotels and apartments to 5 star accommodations.

Wild boar is found in the oak and beech forests of any Burgos mountainside. Trout has become the most important fresh water species.

It has cool weather quite unlike other Spanish cities. It is a great place to come and see any time of the year. Remember to have fun.
