In cases of emergencies, it is important that you know what to do and what you can do. It is not the time for you to become a hero just for the heck of it. Your number one goal at times like this is to ensure that you are safe. However, if you know what you are doing, you can go ahead and help other people. For example, in cases of drowning, if you know how to swim, you can try to help your drowning friend. If not, it is better to stay where you are safe and use a stick to help your friend out of the water.

Therefore, if you want to expand your skills and abilities in emergency situations, it is better for you to undergo special trainings to help you know what to do in emergency cases. There are Basic Life Support trainings that you can undergo, so that you will know how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation effectively. At times when you see someone lying on the floor with no pulse and breathing, you can do this as your immediate action while waiting for help to come. This can help the chances of the victim to survive especially when done in the early 5 minutes from time of unconsciousness.

Fire extinguisher training is also one of the special skills that you can gain so that you will know how to use the device. It will also help you know how to tackle different classifications of fire, its sources and the different kinds of extinguishers to use. You will also understand how fire works and learn how to assess the situation well. Basic knowledge is provided to learn how to operate the fire protection devices without hurting yourself or putting yourself to any form of danger. This way you can put out the flame effectively.

First Aid training is also one of the things that you can learn. It involves bleeding control, immobilization, application of bandages and immediate wound care. You will also have basic knowledge about certain antidotes and standard practices in cases of poisoning. It has a very wide scope so that you will know your immediate response in certain situations. At times when the hospital is really far from where the crisis occurred, at least you will know some way on how to delay and prevent life-threatening conditions to occur.

These are just few examples of trainings that any laymen can get in order to prepare one self in emergency situations. First aid, CPR and fire extinguisher trainings are all basic and you do not need to be medically inclined to understand it. It is also an advantage on your part when you know these things, at least in cases where crisis happen in your own home or with your own family member, you are there to control the situation as much as you can. This is also very helpful in public places. Of course, you can get as much trainings as you can but if you want to be prepared, you can start of with these three.
