Cooling Painful Psoriasis

Psoriasis can be quite painful, irritating and embarrassing. It is a condition that may span a lifetime and can impact almost anyone. Western medicine has concluded that there may be a genetic factor in psoriasis and that there may a risk for people who have it of also getting psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis is not a contagious disease and generally does not present open wounds or lesions. Psoriasis can manifest if five distinct types. There are plaque, inverse, guttate, pustular and erythrodermic forms. In Chinese traditional medicine psoriasis is due to heat and wind that impede nourishment to the skin surface. These lesions are dark-reddish and often covered in a scaly covering of skin cells and are raised.

Some people also experience painful joints and ligaments. According to traditional diagnosis there may also be an aversion to heat, a dark red tongue with a yellow, greasy coating may also be present. Pi fu bing xue du wan is used to dispel the heat and wind evidenced by these symptoms and also to clear out the accumulation of toxins that may contribute to the problem.

Ledebouriella root, an ingredient in pi fu bing xue wan, is used extensively in treating skin conditions such as psoriasis because it expels pathogenic wind and also relieves pain. It is frequently used in conjunction with schizonepeta.
Dahurian angenica root is also contained in pi fu bing xue wan. It acts on the lungs and stomach to remove wind dampness and it also relieves pain. To clear away heat and to nourish Yin that is so important to ridding the body of toxins.
Dried Rehmannia root is also included in pi fu bing xue wan. This root aids in circulation, providing necessary nutrients to the skin.

Another soothing ingredient contained in pi fu bing xue wan is Radix Platycodi. This herb has been used traditionally an excellent ally for the lungs. It clears away wind and dampness. It is beneficial for reducing phlegm which can make the liver sluggish and inefficient as a receptacle of blood.
