Choosing a Bmx Bike

BMX Bikes are built for stunts and tricks. They are strong with great breaks and no gears. Some also come with stunt pegs or similar.

There are a few things to consider when purchasing a BMX like "will I be racing?" or "am I going to be riding on roads or dirt tracks?", "do I want to do jumps and tricks?"

If you're looking to race your BMX, you'll want a BMX designed specifically for racing. Race BMX bikes are lighter and don't come with any 'frills'. They're built for optimum speed and manouvreability around dirt tracks.

If you want to ride on dirt tracks and take on the big jumps, you'll need a Jump BMX bike. They're the heaviest BMX, designed to handle impact and rough rides. They come with strong, rough wheels to grip on the dirt and extremely strong frames.

A Freestyle BMX is the bike of choice for trick or stunt-men. The freestyle BMX has smooth tyres for road riding and many come with stunt accessories like a GYRO or pegs to facilitate supreme stunts. Freestyle BMX bikes are purely designed to perform tricks and stunts although, they are also used by serious off-road and down-hill riders.

As a general rule, you get what you pay for. The more you pay, the more serious the strength and quality of manufacturing.

Manufacturers generally give you a variety of colours to choose from when you purchase a BMX bike, but don't fret too much when it comes to colour because BMX bikes tend to get knocked around.
