If you live in a cold climate and crave the sun, you might decide to head out to sunny San Diego for your next vacation. You can enjoy the many beaches and luxuriate in the climate, which is similar to what you would find in the Mediterranean. Best of all, if you are a golf lover, you can combine your vacation with your golfing passion and turn your time off into a golfing vacation in San Diego. When vacationing in San Diego, you might enjoy knowing a bit about the history of this delightful city. The area was originally inhabited by the Native American people called the Kumeyaay, but the Spanish came and claimed the waterfront for Spain. A Spanish captain was assigned to map the area, and the ship in which he traveled from Spain to the New World was named the San Diego. He in turn called the area San Diego in honor of the Spanish Catholic saint St. Didacus, from whom the name San Diego derives.
San Diego offers vacationers several fun options for your stay. The beaches of San Diego are world famous. For example, Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla is a great beach that is often frequented by surfing enthusiasts. You also will not want to miss the beautiful parks that are located in San Diego. Balboa Park includes not only beautiful gardens, but also museums, theatres, and the San Diego Zoo, all of which have gone into making this park a National Historic landmark.

Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course, located in beautiful Bonita, offers a challenging eighteen holes of golf, with water featured on fifteen of them. The Oceanside Golf Course is one that is relatively flat, so it is easy to walk. The San Luis Rey Valley offers a breathtaking vista on this great golf course, as well as the glory of the Pacific Ocean that you will witness on the twelfth hole. Nearby Escondido, California is home to The Vineyard at Escondido. If you are visiting California, this course is not to be missed because you will get to experience a wide panorama of plants and topography that is native to the area, and gain a greater understanding of California native habitats. This versatile course offers wetlands and wildlife preserves, mountain and lake views, and the beauty of the vineyards that all combine to make a day of golf at The Vineyard one you will remember for a long time.
