Well, ‘pears the powers to be have, for some unknown reason, forgotten the month of August when it came to doling out national, religious and social events (i.e., USA , not including foreign dates and save, of course, one's own personal celebrations of one sort or another). Ironic, it is in that as an adjective, rather than the eighth month of the year having thirty-one days, august inspires awe and magnificence and is worthy of respect because of age. So let us pay tribute to the august August in a manner worthy of its calendar status and namesake position.

Augustus, also known as Octavian, was the grand-nephew of the great Roman Emperor Julius Caesar and Augustus ruled following his Uncle's death. (Note: Julius - July the 7th month of the year; Augustus it follows, as leader - August the 8th month of the year.)

The eighth month nears though quietly, unadorned with hooplas and whippee-do's, still magnificently sets the tone of the remaining days of Summer. Perhaps this is why it was overlooked for grandeur. A peace and restful time after the grand entrance of the season capped by July 4th.

But in its quiet revered manner it shouts with greatness in a different way. It will usher in not only humongous money-saving sales and seasonal close-outs but eagerly shines with the advent of a coming new one.

School days coming? The stores are stocking up on new merchandise, clothing and supplies, and are competitively offering great sales and coupons.

Give August its due. No longer be it orphaned among its eleven neighboring months. Treat it with splendor as it is truly as magnificent as all the other months and deservedly so. Treat it as not the dull end of a season, but rather as the beginning of a revered color-filled one meeting its expectations.

Cowbella's cue: Use the quiet month of August to spend time going in ‘n out and through everything. Make it quiet family time with each member pitching in to spruce up room an' house an' yard, discarding the old and making ready for the new. Make it a family event to pick out the new patio set on sale or colors for the kids' rooms needing paint for the new school season. Then, after all chores are done, sit back and relax during the cooler days of the end of the wonderful month of August.
