Agnes Water and Town of 1770 are situated on the mid coast of Queensland, half way between Bundaberg and Gladstone. The town was the first landing place of Captain Cook in Queensland and his second stop in Australia. There the crew killed a Bustard for some meat - the Bay is now called Bustard Bay.

It is a stunning area for scenery, with lots of coves and inlets. A natural safe harbour at 1770 and the most northerly surf beach in Australia at Agnes Water. The main town beach is 5km long and is wide, sandy and edged by dunes and native bush.

Close by are 3 National Parks and turtles nest and breed on these beaches every year. The area is full of wildlife and has an amazing variety of birdlife.

One of the best things is the area's closeness to the southern Great Barrier Reef and 1770 is the fastest way to access the reef via boat or plane.

There is an array of things to do in the area, a museum, water sports, fishing, nature, camping, adventure trips and much more.

In March each year is the Long Board Classic surf regatta and in May a historical event in commemoration of Captain Cook landing.

Plenty of restaurants allow for a variety of eating tastes and there are 2 shopping centres.

There is a wide variety of accommodations ranging from back packer to luxury, beach or bush.

This is one of those places where you will feel at home straight away and not want to leave
