Night mouth guards are primarily used by people who have teeth grinding problems or bruxism. Bruxism is that unnatural habit of clenching your teeth while sleeping, which creates an annoying sound to your bed partner.

The easiest solution to bruxism is the use of night mouth guards. There two general kinds of this device. The first type is the one you can buy over-the-counter. The other type is the custom-fitted night mouth guards for maximum protection of your dentures. Between the two, the custom-fitted night mouth guard is your better choice.

The first and foremost importance of using night mouth guards is to protect your teeth and your smile. People with severe bruxism problems tend to damage their dentures as they go about their unconscious habit. Damaged teeth connote an unattractive smile. And unattractive smile means lesser confidence. Without confidence, you surely can't face the world or life's challenges without fear or inhibition. This is how important your teeth and your smile can be. Your smile is always your biggest asset. You have to take care of it at all costs.

The use of night mouth guard is very important not only smile-wise but health-wise too. Night mouth guards don't just protect your teeth from getting scratched and broken. It can also keep you away from the headaches and jaw pains associated with bruxism.

In some people, the effect of bruxism is intense. It makes them develop a splitting headache in the morning or some severe pain in the jaw area. There are bruxism patients that respond well to the use of night mouth guards. When they wear it, they become more conscious of the condition of their teeth and its tendency to grind with one another. Night mouth guards keep the pairs of your teeth from touching against each other.

If you know for a fact that you suffer from bruxism, it is best that you go to a dentist for a consultation. There are many reasons why people grind their teeth at night or as they sleep. And unfortunately, not all of them can be directly addressed by night mouth guards. Some people may require surgery. For others, a series of behavioral correction therapy is in order. It is also best to get custom-fit night mouth guards from the dentists themselves, to be sure that the device won't fall off your teeth as you sleep. However, custom-fit night mouth guards are more expensive than the ones easily available at pharmacies.
