As the recession takes charge of world economy, many small business owners are worried about keeping their business alive.

Lots of people are wondering if they should be investing in fancy new site designs, or boosting their pay-per-click budgets, or hiring high-priced SEO experts to help them get better rankings.

But I recommend you to pay little more attention to your Email marketing as it is one of the surest ways to keep your business humming in this economic downturn, without investing any money.

To get your Email marketing campaign right and most effective these are the five things you must keep in mind:

1. Keep Accurate Record - Having detailed records is just good business practice, but in the case of your opt-ins, it's critical. It makes your Email marketing most effective as you send it to a highly targeted, selected group of people; your customers and subscribers who have a relationship with you and WANT to hear from you.

2. Privacy Policy On Your Website - Make sure you let people know that you will NEVER sell or trade their names and email addresses when they opt-in, and make sure you STICK to that!

3. Allow To Unsubscribe - Allow your subscriber with a link to unsubscribe if they want to. This is NOT negotiable. Any email sent out without unsubscribe information is officially spam!

4. Use An Authentic Subject Line - You can not cheat or fool your customer by making some dream like headlines and giving nothing in exchange. By doing this you will loose your customer's faith for ever. So make sure your subject line is related to your actual message.

5. Use Reputed Service Providers - Make sure you use only reputed service provider so that it doesn't heart your reputation. Keep one thing in mind, your reputation is only as good as the people providing Email promotions for you.
