The month of September sees a large number of Student Trade Fair's taking place across the UK at Universities and colleges and this means an excellent marketing opportunity for many businesses. Many banks, employers, newspapers and travel companies for example, have realized the importance and value of marketing direct to students to gain their business from the start of their university days. These students become 'mature consumers', i.e. higher spending consumers once they move into the workplace. A student who joins a bank at the start of university will very often stay with that same bank through their working life, hence the value of having a presence at Student Trade Fairs.

Information for potential exhibitors: There are usually spaces for exhibitors from commerce and these will normally be combined with a percentage of student services and university related exhibits and groups. If you wish to market at a student trade fair then the services do need to be tailored and appropriate to student needs, even if you put a twist onto your service i.e. student work opportunities.

Finding an exhibition stand: The exhibition space at these fairs is not as large as at an exhibition at an exhibition venue, for example, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, thus the easiest way to exhibit can be to rent or buy display kits. Several companies offer quality and affordable display kits which are perfect in design for student trade fairs and one such company in the UK is Clip Ltd (clipdisplay.com). As one of the most experienced UK companies and with 30 years of experience in the exhibitions industry, they are a good first port of call for all types of exhibition stands.

General costs for exhibiting: Apart from the cost of renting or hiring a display kit, general and average costs for exhibiting at a student fair can normally range from £200 for one day, through to £1000 but for the full 3 days and in a prime position. In terms of exhibition marketing fees, these are relatively low and balanced against the benefits, are arguably very reasonable.

Extra Benefits: A small benefit but one which should not be overlooked and which can actually make the exhibition space rental fee worthwhile by itself alone, is that you often get a website link on the University website. Exhibitors are often linked on the Fresher's Fair page and this link is classified by Google as an Authority Link because of the academic domain. This link gives you an Authority one-way link to your website and this alone is very valuable in terms of website promotion.
