While those with David Spade tickets get to see this comedian towering above them on stage, this pint-sized pistol has made a name for himself in Hollywood as a short but talented funnyman. Some of his life has seen tragedy, but Spade has dealt with it the way the best comedians do- with humor.

David Spade was born in Birmingham, Michigan on July 22, 1964. By the time he was four, his family moved to Arizona. His small size was an issue during his childhood and spade would routinely get beat up at school. He briefly went to college but soon dropped out to do standup and for the first time, fans started buying David Spade tickets. He also supported himself by working at a skateboard shop. He soon moved to Los Angeles and started performing on a comedy tour. An agent was in the audience at one of his shows and gave Spade his first film appearance with Sharon Stone and Steve Guttenberg in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.

From there he was on HBO's 13th Annual Young Comedians Show in 1989, hosted by Dennis Miller. Miller helped Spade get his big break by getting him a spot on Saturday Night Live in 1990. Spade did mostly writing at first for Saturday Night Live but soon was famous for sketches of his own like "Hollywood Minute." It was also at SNL where Spade met Chris Farley, and the two quickly became close friends.

He was in Coneheads in 1993 before two of his hit films with Farley, Tommy Boy (1995) and Black Sheep (1996). Tragically, Farley passed away in 1997 of a drug overdose, and Spade was devastated. Ironically, the tragedy happened the same year as the beginning of a hit TV series for Spade, Just Shoot Me. He continued to appear in movies as well with parts in 8 Heads in a Duffle Bag, Lost and Found, Joe Dirt and Loser. Just Shoot Me ran until 2003, the same year he starred in the film Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.

More recently, Spade can be seen on the show Rules of Engagement. The show features a married couple, an engaged couple and their single friend (Spade). The show was recently renewed for its third season. He is also working on the film Hollywood & Wine, which is set to come out in 2009.
