Callie Wilde's Date with an Erotica Author

I just had to call her up and tell her enough. I had tried to catch her throughout the busiest week of the year and understood how busy she was but between kids in the background, ballgames, horse racing, and one can only imagine what else, I wasn't getting the information I wanted to round out our week together. So, I called her up and scheduled a date. Not, really a date but an interview. One where she would actually pen me in with a time slot and everything; however, Destiny informed me she didn't keep dates. I believe her because I don't know how she could with all of the non-stop commotion that goes on at her house!

Destiny Blaine is an erotica romance author who lives in a rural area of Tennessee with her husband and children. I know they have a dog because I've heard it in the background when we've chatted on the phone. She gambles and writes about that. She cooks, but doubts anyone would want her to write on cooking tips. She cleans, only when she has to and she must have had sex at least twice in her life because she has two kids walking around to prove it.

Oh, yes, and she writes some of the juiciest sex scenes I've ever seen on the pages of an erotica romance. You might say, she diversifies considering her mom-persona one moment and sex-slinging smut writer the next. This is just one reason some want to know about the woman behind the pen, so to speak.

Destiny Blaine is "in her thirties" and she has been writing since before she can remember but only tried her hand at erotica romance this past year where she found instant success. She has three titles published and released through Mardi Gras Publishing and another one on the way in February. Two of her titles are part of a series so I'm sure we'll see a lot more of her and her very obvious, (well how should we put this)... talents. I'm talking about her writing capabilities of course.

Blaine's talents truly are crafty. After all, she is rapidly becoming an author people will look to when they want a "quickie" read something she calls "afternoon delights." What we've found more than anything else, is that Blaine is a writer who knows how to keep her reader's attention. She not only has fiery sex scenes but she can write a romance that is sensual and sexy or a mystery sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I asked her about her goals for the upcoming year and she didn't elaborate too much but that's Destiny. She doesn't make a lot of plans and outside of a week in Tunica, Mississippi for the upcoming poker tournaments, it appears she's not interested in scheduling anything early into 2007 but we have seen a pretty impressive line up of some upcoming releases and manuscripts, so we know her break will have to be short lived. She will also be attending the coveted Romantic Times Booklovers Convention and seems as excited about the RT convention as she is about playing poker at the WPO in Tunica.

Since I pressed her for all sorts of information on her short stories, novellas, and novels, Destiny sent us some excerpts from the short stories already released along with a few excerpts from manuscripts she has in progress. We have to give you the tame versions, but think you'll enjoy a sampling of what Destiny Blaine can offer her readers.

The first excerpt is from one of her novels she has in the works. Introducing Lacy, is one of her current works we think will be one of her best. Take a look at this little tidbit:

(taken from the prologue)

".....I like my job in the public as a busy event planner. It allows me to get to know some very desirable men. Naturally, I love my job as an entertainer-of-sorts behind closed doors. I mean after all, it's like comparing apples to oranges. As an event planner, I'm on my feet constantly and behind the scenes? Let's just say I work well on my back. Most, and probably all, of my regulars would agree. I'm also pretty talented on my knees. The guys are now following along with me.

The fact is, men love sex. They can't get enough of it. Some like it more than others. Me? I'm the same way. No kitchen apron or play dates would ever be able to tame me. So, now that you've been properly introduced to the Lacy everyone in this town knows; let me tell you about the men and women you will see me with throughout our evening together....."

Again, the above teaser was probably one of the more innocent of her excerpts. Blaine writes short stories and novel-length manuscripts from both the first and third person. One of my personal favorites from Destiny Blaine is Murder by Numbers but I imagine it will soon be replaced by another one I anticipate everyone will love. Destiny has a series beginning called The Truth Chronicles and Book One promises to delight the reader who likes sarcastic wit. Book One is entitled Defining Bliss. Take a look:

Joy, Happiness, Euphoria, Heaven-on-Earth, Exhilarating, Intoxicating, Delightful, Exciting, Paradise, Ecstasy.....Defining Bliss includes all of the above terms but for me, Defining Bliss never went hand and hand with marriage. However, something else sure comes to mind. Yes, bliss my friends, is hot, wild, and passionate sex. That's bliss.

This, is your mother's worst nightmare because today, I let you down gently as I inform you of a little well known secret many married women already know. Your dear, sweet, kind, and loving mother told you an age-old lie when she used the word marriage and bliss in the same sentence.

I'm Remy Carrington and I'm here to set the record straight..

Ok, so here's what I love about The Truth Chronicles. It is based on a lot of truth with a fictional twist. Remy Carrington is the character who represents the views of several women rolled into her fictional presence within the chronicles. We are anxious to see what becomes of it but we can see where Ms. Blaine has a best-seller in the works. Initially, Blaine had planned to keep Defining Bliss as a separate short story for an anthology within the chronicles, but now, the entire project has taken a new turn and it is a story in front of a much more interesting foundation but we won't spoil the surprise!

Well, since I just love it, I think I'll give you another little sampling from Defining Bliss:

...The day you say I do, I want you to remember what I am saying because this is really what you will be saying "I DO" to: You'll be saying that you will "do" your husband whenever he wants it and eventually he's the only one you will remember "doing" but that's the way he wants it of course. You are also saying "I DO" to the fact that you DO understand you will never _____another man again without being called a cheater, adulteress and possibly even a slu-the last title will be reserved for the slut that sleeps with the wrong woman's husband. After all, women typically give other women the title.

You will be saying "I do" to loads of laundry with a bottomless hamper, to home-cooked meals you don't want to fix and the dirty dishes afterwards. You'll say "I do" to the porn your husband wants you to sit through if you don't have sex with him and then you'll say I do to the sex you didn't want to have just because the porn, not your husband, got you all worked up. This, my friend will be your life post-marriage and honey, I'm just getting started..

Defining Bliss is fun and wildly entertaining and after reading the excerpts, I must agree that yes, Destiny Blaine is just getting started. Her wit is apparent when it needs to be. Her unbiased and sexually open views are frankly, what every man in the world probably would love to see in their favorite gal and best of all, she has no idea of the kind of impact her stories are taking in the world of erotic reading. That, I think may be part of her appeal.

I originally began following Destiny Blaine under another "pen" name she uses for gambling articles and material. Since I follow erotica romance authors and gambling is a hobby of mine, we hit it off immediately. I asked her recently what she liked to write best and her answer surprised me. "If you had asked me that a month ago, I would have told you gambling and sports. Now, hmmmm, let me think about it for a minute. Okay. I think I would prefer to write sex any day of the week because it's easy to come up with the scenes and all. After all, you can just write what comes naturally!"

To borrow a line from Destiny, I must say, "Sometimes, she thinks she is really quite comical." She can amuse herself it seems. Of course, that is what is growing on her readers. She is having fun and with her attitude, work ethics, and creative mind, she is going to be able to realize huge success.

In fact, if we were placing odds on this author, we'd have to say she's not a long shot. Of course, she giggled when I told her and her only comeback was, "Well, I don't think I'm quite the sure thing yet either but I'm working on it."

Destiny Blaine is working on it. With over 10 titles credited to her name in fiction and non-fiction works either already on sale or with a print and release date, she turned 2006 into a year most authors would love to emulate. Of course, you'd be hard pressed to find one with such a great attitude about it all. "I've just been very lucky this year. Maybe sometime we'll talk about luck. After all, I believe it had a lot to do with it and fate did too but I'll save that for another day."

Yes, Destiny save that for another day because we'll be talking again very soon and I imagine a lot of people will want to know all they can about the woman behind the name. After all, it's not everyday you get to chat with someone who is most definitely destined for fame!
