What Flavor is Your Hair?

Almost daily I'm reminded of my disdain of marketers. They've complicated my life with decisions that I'd prefer not to make. Apparently, I now have to decide what flavor my hair should be each day.

Have I been going about shampoo all wrong? Was I not cleaning my hair? This morning I reviewed the array of Suave shampoo bottles facing me, but how does one decide which to use? The green bottle is named Juicy Green Apple, and the blue bottle is infused with mint extract. The red bottle has strawberry juice, and the white bottle includes real coconut. I didn't know whether to wash my hair with it or dribble it on my ice cream. Thank goodness my bottle of Head & Shoulders was there. It simply says Classic Clean. Now that sounds nice, and it's all I want from my shampoo.

Don't get me wrong … I like fruit as much as anybody else, but do marketers bite into a juicy green apple and think "this is really good, I think I would like this in my hair"? Personally, I don't want fruit in my hair. I just want what's left of my hair to be clean, and nothing more.

When my shower ended, my heightened awareness of odd shampoo ingredients caused me to grab the bottle of hand cleaner from the sink. Not to be outdone by the shampoo folks, some marketer named this hand soap Country Orchard, covering all the fruit bases in one fell swoop. Marketing genius.

That day, I went to work with renewed confidence, knowing that my Country Orchard flavored hands easily trumped any of my peers' single flavored hair. What flavor is your hair?
