How Does a Neff Extractor Hood Work?

The basic job of a cooker hood is to ventilate your kitchen for you and get rid of 'used' air and grease particles and replace them with fresh air particles. You can do this by leaving a door or window open and rely on natural air movement, but this is dependant on the air temperatures - in the summer months this process does not work because there is less likely to be a breeze and the air will not feel very fresh at all; in the winter the natural process does work, but the air exchange leads to loss of heat in the home. Using this method may also lead to problems with condensation and could fail to adequately ventilate less accessible corners of the room.

The most efficient way for you to extract your steam and odours from your kitchen is through ducted extraction. The larger the ducting size that you use, the larger volume of air is extracted, but the maximum ducting length that should be used is five metres. This allows 1.2 metres for every 90º bend, which is necessary when you take into consideration the fact that the fresh air needs to be able to flow back into the kitchen. When using ducted extraction, it is important to make sure that the air does not make its way back into your kitchen. The way to do this is by ducting with a wall outlet box and a non return valve. The minimum diameter of this ducting should be at least 1.2 metres.

Although ducted extraction is the best and most efficient method, this is not possible in all cases. For example, if you live in a flat or your extractor hood is to far away from an outside wall, then unfortunately the only way that you will be able to extract the 'used' air is through recirculation. Recirculation works by sucking the stale air through a grease filter and then a purifying charcoal feature. The extractor hood then pumps the air back into the kitchen via an opening in the Neff extractor hood. The higher the extraction or circulation rate is, the more efficient the hood is.

There are ways to make your Neff extractor hood work even more efficiently. A great trick is to turn the extractor hood on a few minutes before you begin to cook. This means that the air in the kitchen will be circulated, which will be a big help in removing those greasy odours.

Maintenance of your extractor is also very important to make sure that it keeps running as efficiently as possible. One of the best ways to effectively maintain your extractor fan is by frequently removing the metal grease filters. The metal grease filters on the Neff extractor fans can be washed in the dishwasher, taking the inconvenience out of hand washing the filters. Some of the extractor hoods from Neff have an indicator to let you know when they need to be cleaned or replaced. All Neff models have a 2 year warranty.
