Valet parking is obligatory if you dine in some restaurants. You just hand the keys to the attendant and pay when leaving. This could be really easy and do not forget to tip the guy before leaving.

Most parking meters accept USD quarters, but some parking systems require dollars to be put into the parking system slot. So have some change or dollar bills ready just in case.

If you want to park for free you park at shopping malls or for inside parking you have your ticket validated at the store where you were shopping and get a reduced parking fee.

In California you can spot parking restrictions by curb colors. Red color of the curb means that the parking is prohibited, yellow indicates a loading zone, green allows parking for up to ten minutes, and white allows you to park for 5 minutes only during business hours. Blue curbs are marking the disabled person parking only. If parking on the steep hills in San Francisco, you have to turn your wheel into the road if facing uphill and toward the curb if facing downhill.

So watch out when parking in San Francisco.
