It is always helpful for a bride shopping for the perfect Brooklyn bridal gown to have the basic understanding of the many different styles of gowns in the market today. Whether shopping with your mother, your best friend or even when shopping alone, the following fabric descriptions will help you explain to your bridal consultant exactly what you are searching for.

• Brocade. Raised and knitted designs characterized by a satin weave background. The motif of the Brooklyn bridal gown may be created within the fabric.

• Chiffon. A delicately filmy fabric that is lightweight with a soft drapable finish and a simple texture.

• Dotted Swiss. A sheer and very lightweight muslin fabric embroidered with evenly spaced raised dot.

• Eyelet Lace. With unsymmetrical and small perforations or holes that often creates a floral pattern. The perforations have a buttonhole stitch finish or sometimes called open weave embroidery.

• Faille. Tightly but shiny woven fabric that is made of rayon or silk. This fabric has a crosswise rib effect.

• Moire. Made generally of silk taffeta or polyester that glistens like water when seen under a soft and mellow light.

• Poin d'esprit. A polyester net with the threads sewn together to produce an effect of a diamond pattern.

• Polynet. This is a netting that is often used to make sleeves and yokes.

• Organza. A simply woven cloth that is transparent with a crystal-like appearance.

• Satin. A dense and solid fabric that is woven in satin weave that features a smooth finish. There are different kinds of satin: the Slipper Satin which is soft, light and closely woven that shines in the light and the Italian Satin which is heavier and brimming with body to feature an antique sheen.

• Taffeta. The most popular fabric used for Brooklyn bridal gowns and may be used either as a lining or outer fabric of the gown. This fabric may either have a shiny or matte finish that is fairly stiff when used as an outer layer.

• Tulle. Usually found in layers to cover a full satin skirt, it is a webbed net of cotton, silk or synthetic fabric.

• Tullonet. Used to give fullness of a skirt, this fabric is a coarse net.

Now that you know the different kinds of available fabric, you may now plan your perfect Brooklyn bridal gown.
