Got Your Goal Setting Worksheet For 2007? Are You Wasting Your Time?

As I write this, we are 2 days away from the end of 2006. A time of year when we hear a lot of people talking about "New Years resolutions", and setting goals. I thought I'd check this out and see if it was true, and I was staggered by what I found on Google Trends (google.com/trends) when I typed in "Goal Setting".

You can see a picture of what I found on my blog link below. It's amazing! Literal sharp mountain peaks of search volume, EXACTLY over the turn of each new year. You really should see it to believe it!

What does this tell us? Is the population conditioned to think about goals for a week or two over New Years? Does this flurry of activity pay off in any way? Well, do you have your goal setting worksheet out ready to fill with New Years Resolutions for 2007?

Forget it! Don't waste your time! Don't I believe in goal setting? No, I absolutely do. Just not the "New Years Resolution" type - that's all.

In fact, it's is actually good to write a list of goals, and the beginning of the year is as good a time to do it as any, but the big question is what are you going to do with those goals DURING the year to increase your chances of them coming to pass? See, New Years Resolutions are like diets…. They have that "fad" aspect to them. Burst of activity for a few weeks, then…

Fizzle, crash and burn ! The vast majority of people aren't significantly different in any way at all, come February! What can be done about this disturbing reality? Check out the Google Trends graph on my blog link below and you'll find out.
