Cricket for West Indians is just more than a game; we can expect a one thing during a cricket match in Caribbean and it is lively party. ICC Cricket World Cup would be of grand party with the crowds offering colors and music throughout the event; it is simply a means to enjoy thoroughly.
Racy calypso beats, with bongos and trumpets out in unison is really amazing. Most grounds used to have stands selected as 'Mounds', the areas reserved for more lively spectators. This was usually popular in Sabina Park, in Kingston and Kensington Oval, in Barbados. Mound tickets were usually the most in demand and this is the place to find the cheerleaders and DJs. These grounds have gone through major refurbishment for the 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup.
Cricket World Cup for West Indians is incomplete without the musical frills. Cricket fans enter the stadiums armed with drums, conches, and with various other musical instruments and offer us rhythmic flavor of the day. Music is not really played when the ball is bowled but timed with overs and breaks. Usually to mood up with music and pace is in direct relation with state of the match. Tunes ranges from "Ska" to "Calypso" to "Soca chutney" with fans grinding their own way through out the day, adds colorful in atmosphere.
Drove up with the music, West Indians are extremely knowledgeable about Cricket and watch very attentively. They follow what is going on in the play ground. They enjoy attacking batsmen but are equally appreciative of defensive techniques as well. They know their cricket history and it is never difficult to strike up a conversation with a team of fan.
West Indians would apparently be rooting for their side but don't be surprised if you see them clapping fine performance from their opposition. They don't rancor good efforts from other teams and talk about their batting or bowling display for days on end. A Sachin Tendulkar or Ricky Ponting would get as much of his due as any of their West Indian heroes might get. As Courtney Walsh states "It would be a different kind of event in many ways - music, colour, and atmosphere. If at all West Indies go on to win it, cricket would get back its correct place in the hearts of the Caribbean people."
