Is the healthcare industry losing their memories of yesterday? There was a period in earth history where paper was the key source of keeping track of important records and it was the only way to store important information. It seems like even today, the same type of thing is happening in the health industry. So therefore the answer to my question is a very loud no. Medical records are still being used as the key source for tracking patient history and other vital information.

What are the cons of using paper? Paper has no built in security devices; paper will not drive someone to fill it out in the correct format, paper is not near as fast as technology and instead of just a few clicks of the mouse, paper will take days to travel.. What can possibly be done for the health care industry which has been making important advances in technology but has done practically nothing for it's system of recording information? The remedy? Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Congress has been working to allow interoperability between medical practices and hospitals to allow them to easily and quickly transfer medical records. An emr system is being worked out so that no matter where a hospital receives its emr software, all emr systems will be able to function with one another to allow the transfer of crucial information.

Most software has voice recognition capabilities that will entirely obliterate the need for transcription of your dictations. It is of assistance to a business to be able to isolate where their consumers undergo the majority of holdups in their system. After the problem is located a solution to make it more efficient can be a reached thus making the entire process easier to navigate. By doing so, patients will be happier and their visits will be more efficient. The correct EMR software allows ways to follow that type of valuable information and can pilot you to effective and productive solutions.

EMR Software runs off of a tablet PC allowing a physician to carry it in to the room with the patient. With this software a physician and call for the prescription to be filled right from his tablet pc. Doing so will eliminate the wait a patient has after being examined because the prescription will be made available as soon as the patient leaves the office. That alone is a feature sure to impress any patient. This state of the art technology will help to label any office as a forward thinking, technologically advanced practice.

Are there problems with the software? It would be a lie to say no. The normal problems that occur often with technology exist. And it will require additional training for employees to learn how to run the EMR software. And these systems are still fairly new and so are not completely bug free.

Should this be a reason to shy you away from purchasing an emr system? Absolutely not. The negatives don't even compare to how much time and money a medical practice or hospital will save by implementing an electronic medical record system.
