Everyone would like to be better at selling.

All of us are actually in the sales business, and even if it is not a product or service that is being sold by us, then it is our problem solving skills which we are selling.

Most people are unable to sell because they do not possess the necessary skills.

There are rules that have to be followed when trying to write a successful sales letter.

If your sales page does not convert visitors into a buyerers, then you need to go back to basics and start again with new copy.

Here is my list of the main problems I think you need to watch out for within your sales letters:

1. Your sales letters lack focus. Do not write sales letters that fail to get to the actual point. People simply do not read those kinds of sales letters. You have to be able to get their attention fast, or you might just lose them!

2. You failed to write about the emotional benefits. You have got to connect to your customer and try to see life the way that they see it. Even the most incredible product or service possible will fail to interest your reader if they cannot immediately see how it can be of benefit to them.

3. Your sales page just goes on and on for ages. You have got to shorten the length of your sales pages until they are reduced down to the main points that simply let your customers know how their life can be improved, made much simpler, or just made happier after they have purchased your product or service. So do not make a sales page that goes on too long without mentioning the benefits, as your customer might well disappear before clicking on the "buy now" button.

4. Your sales page is full of distractions. Your sales page should never be used to link to other websites that you own or to other products of yours. You do not want to risk your customer being distracted before making heir purchase. Just focus on he one product at a time (add links to other products on your "thank you pages, which they see only after they have bought from you!) Only mention benefits to them, and try to focus much less on the features. A sales page which makes readers scroll down to the bottom before getting to the point will simply make most of your visitors leave.

The power of persuasion.

Writing is not just something you do as well as selling. Writing actually is selling. Any letter that you write to others is potentially a sales letter. Successful sales people are very much like hypnotists, in the sense that they are using the power of suggestion to try to persuade a customer to purchase something.

A sales message is a lot more convincing when it targets an emotion or desire that we all feel, such as a hope or desire an improved life.

Here are 5 ways that you can add a little persuasion in your sales letters:

1. Deliver your message with conviction.

2. Whilst explaining the benefits you can offer, use different ways of wording things in order to reach different types of customers.

3. Try to establish a rapport throughout your sales letter and be positive.

4. Guide your customers' thought processes and anticipate any objections they might have.

5. Use a compelling story to get your message out there and it will convince potential customers.
