Each of the Consumer Guide editors has allocated 25 points to vehicles that are chosen as finalists. The vehicles were given no more than 10 points and winners were chosen based on the highest number of overall points in both car and truck categories. For last year's inaugural award, the winners were Lexus 350 ES and Toyota Tundra.
