Bad breath is one of the most embarrassing things that we have to be neurotic about. Sadly, our fear of bad breath has created a billion-dollar industry. Bad breath is mainly caused by odor-producing bacteria that have a nasty habit of growing in your mouth. If you are plagued by bad breath, don't fret. There are ways for you to douse the fire of that dragon mouth and go out among civilization again.

1. Food - Spicy food is a great culprit and many people are shocked because they think that bad breath caused by such food is limited to the day after consuming the foods in question. The fact is spicy food can cause bad breath for two to three days after a meal and this is why people think the cause lies elsewhere.

2. A dry mouth the accumulation of dead skin cells. These dead skin cells are then consumed by bacteria. And then you have the breath of death once again. Drinking water also rinses out food particles and what-not.

3. Don't smoke. If you do, you'll clear the entire room with your gnarly breath.

4. Zinc keeps the anaerobic bacteria in your mouth in check, so the bacteria doesn't have a field day reproducing and causing your breath to smell bad.

5. Milk and cheese are rich in proteins, thus, a feeding ground to these anaerobic bacteria in your mouth. The odor of sour milk is caused by the similar bacteria that create bad breath. When they break down the lactose protein and release of the amino which in turn end up becoming volatile sulfur compounds. If you are lactose intolerant and you want to learn how to get rid of bad breath, do not consume milk as it can make the problem worse. The anaerobic bacteria will break down these proteins in your oral environment for all its worth.

6. In the same way that alcohol is extremely noticeable on the breath of someone drunk, strong tasting food can also find its way onto the breath of someone who has consumed it. The noxious smelling chemicals find their way into your blood, which releases it into the air once the blood reaches your lungs, giving you garlic, onion, liver ,or whatever breath. This is one of the best bad breath cure.

7. To kill germs that cause odors, mix an herbal mouthwash with 1 teaspoon tea tree oil, 1 teaspoon rosemary oil and 1/2 cup water. Put the mixture in a squirt bottle and spritz your mouth regularly, especially after eating odorous foods.

8. Drink a cup of hot, unsweetened tea. It has the added benefit of being good for you -- especially if you drink green tea, which has polyphenols in it which some studies say help to combat and/or prevent cancer.

9. Eat an apple a day. The hard texture of apples gets rid of the plaque on your teeth and helps to produce more saliva.
