The Easiest Way To Organise A Party, For 'dummies'!

We are going to keep things simple here. Keeping things 'simple' does not mean a trashy or boring party. It means that we will go through together, the basic steps to organising the party and anything you would like to add in between will be the little extras.

What is the event or function? What is the occasion being celebrated? Organising a party for a birthday may well be different to organising a party for your best friends bucks night or hens night. A charity fundraiser event will be somewhat different to a corporate team building event. This can determine the venue, entertainment and virtually the rest of the things that will be involved in organising the party.

Your guest-list. How many people are going to be involved and attending this event? What are the numbers of your guest-list and who are they? Are they going to be work colleagues or close friends and family? Are they people you know and who know each other or are there going to be guests whom have never met one another before? It is going to be difficult in the beginning to know the exact guest-list due to most people not being able to make definitive decisions on the spot. An approximate guest-list will suffice for now.

Venue or home? Depending on the numbers, you will have to choose the venue or place where the function will be held. Too many people, and it may not be feasible to have the party at home. Not enough people and a venue may be out of the question. Will it be a seated event or a mingling crowd gathering?

The food and drinks can be determined by 'where' the event will be held. If at a venue then finding somewhere that can provide you with the food and drinks that you want will be your best bet. Unless of course you want to go through all the hassle of organising a venue and organising your food and drinks separately. If you are holding the event at a home, then food and drinks can be organised separately. Will there be alcoholic beverages? Non-alcoholic beverages? Banquet or finger foods? Make your choices based on the guest-list and the occasion.
If you are not sure of what the guests would like then a platter of finger foods can be a great thing and a 'cure all' so to speak.

What about entertainment? Again this will be determined mainly by the occasion and partly by the guest-list. You may have a stripper at a bucks night or hens party but not at a corporate team building event. You may have an awesome live band at a birthday party but not for a pampering hens night out. Choose how you will have the music. Whether it's a DJ, live band, music from an mp3 player or whatever. Just make sure you to have it organised and ready to go for the night.

Your intention is the final thing to consider and perhaps even should be set from the very beginning. Why are you throwing this party and to what purpose? Do you want everybody to enjoy themselves or do you simply not care? (If you didn't care you wouldn't be going through all this trouble to begin with). Are you throwing a party for your best friends bucks or hens night and therefore are you aiming to please them? Are you trying to raise funds for a charity? Or to build your team bonding between team members in your corporate sector? Hold on to your intention. Remember, what you think about, you will attract to you.
