Prom is one of the most important days or a teenage girl's life. It's a right of passage for many, marking the end of childhood and the start of adulthood. But, it's also an important time for mom. And, who else knows her daughter better than she, so letting mom help choose the best designer prom dress for her girl can be very rewarding for both, bringing mother and daughter closer together.

Let's face it; the months, weeks and days leading up to Prom can be very stressful. Any help on offer can only be a good thing. The first person a girl usually turns for help and advice is her mother. But, when it comes to choosing a designer prom dress, many girls shy away from asking for their mother's help. Pressure from friends plus a feeling that mom is out of date contribute to not asking for help.

This is really a great shame, as a mother knows her daughter like no one else. A mother will give advice that is always truthful and in the best interests of her daughter. She will know her daughter's likes and dislikes, her body shape, her complexion, what colors suit her, what hair styles accentuate her facial features and neckline, and so much more. If there's one piece of advice that is of greater weight than any other when looking for a prom gown, it's always to seek mother's opinion.

Chances are the mother has been through all the emotions that surround Prom. She'll understand her daughter's desire to look her absolute best and her anxiety about not doing so on the night. She'll also know what type of formal gown her daughter will look best in. In all probability the daughter has never worn a formal evening gown before and has very little confidence in what to wear. In contrast, her mother will have worn a formal gown on numerous occasions and will have a fairly good idea about the sort of designer prom dress that would complement her daughter's figure.

Seeking advice is easier if the daughter already knows she wants to wear a traditional style like a Tiffany prom dress; her mother will have worn something similar and they'll be able to more easily discuss minor points of styling. However, when the daughter wants to wear a more contemporary gown like the Flirt prom dress, there can be a feeling on the daughter's part that mother is behind the times and won't have a clue about modern fashions, whilst on the mother's side, she will be anxious that her daughter is making a mistake in wearing a dress that she'll later regret.

Whatever style of designer prom dress the daughter decides to wear she should ask her mother's opinion. Her mother will know from experience what type of dress best flatters a certain type of body shape; she'll be able to give candid and well intentioned advice. She also knows her daughter's coloring and what color of dress will complement her complexion.

Prom can sometimes separate mother from daughter. This is a tragedy. When both mother a and daughter help choose the designer prom dress together, the daughter is more likely to look her best, her mother will feel appreciated and both will have been brought closer together.
