Fibromyalgia and Daily Living

For the thousands of people severing with Fibromyalgia, the word means pain. Fibromyalgia is chronic musculoskeletal pain that is caused by abnormalities of sensory processing in the spinal cord and brain. Total elimination of pain at this time is not possible. Patients with Fibromyalgia can be helped to have productive and less painful lives, if armed with patience and knowledge. Statistics state that more women then men have fibromyalgia, with a 3.5 % of the population. Men are 0.5% of the population and the average age range for both is 25 to 55.

People who have fibromyalgia can have many other symptoms including extreme fatique, irritable bowel, headaches, insomnia and depression. It has been speculated that fibromyalgia begins with the Mononucleosis virus, and followed by the lingering Epstein's bar virus. Emotional or physical trauma has been found to have occurred right before the onset of fibromyalgia in many suffers. Doctors may disagree about the causes of fibromyalgia but some believe that when fibromyalgia runs in families, that an inherent predisposition may be present.

Another controversy with fibromyalgia is the mercury in dental amalgam. People are finding some relief with the removal of the fillings, then doing a detoxification using chelators. A steady flow of chelators excrete mercury from the body. A full detox may take months or years depending on the amount of mercury stored in your body and how the body is holding onto the mercury.

From reading articles on this I have found that the actual chelation therapy is very cheap and anyone can afford it. Whereas it has been reported that the dental removal of old fillings can be expensive.

Fibromyalgia is life changing and will effect the persons whole family. An understanding family is important but a lot of people do not get the support they need. Support groups can be helpful, if you find a group that offers more than a crying session. I have heard of groups that are this way and how they have lost members. I belong to a great group, which if you are new to fibromyalgia and need to ask questions, we try to help. Now, no medical advice is given but we discuss different treatment people have tried and have quest speakers, when available.
Support groups can also help the family to understand what the person is going through and how they can help (ex: children doing dishes).

There have been many books and articles written about fibromyalgia.
These contain information on how it starts, how to treat with medicines and exercise, the emotional state of the person and how many doctors do not believe in the existence of fibromyalgia. I hope to continue writing articles on "How To Deal with Fibromyalgia on A Daily Basis ".
