The Mercedes M-Class is a recent addition to the Mercedes family of automobiles. Developed in 1997 and offered in 1998, models of this class are mid-size, four-door luxury sports utility vehicles. Until recently, Mercedes MLs are considered by car enthusiasts as merely 'lifestyle' SUVs, neither good on the road nor off the road. This all changed in 2005 when Mercedes decided to offer the car in different flavors, allowing the buyers to customize according to their needs. With three specification levels, three wheel sizes, and an off-road gear option, Mercedes ML became a serious contender in the prestigious 4x4 market.

The Mercedes ML was the first car designed to appeal to the American public, and helped Mercedes Benz gain reputation as an international player. Before the Mercedes ML, all Mercedes models were conceived in the company's German headquarters. Owing to the company's legendary reputation in safety, the ML was the first SUV to be equipped with stability control. This, combined with other standard safety Mercedes ML parts, gained for the M-Class the highest ratings in industry crash tests. While the safety features were impeccable, the initial quality of the vehicle was poor. It was not until the second generation rolled out in 2005 that Mercedes MLs earned its dynamic, forward-looking reputation.

Daimler-Chrysler spent approximately $600 million to redesign the second-generation Mercedes ML. The new lineup sported an overhauled body work, showing more aerodynamic lines which lowered the drag coefficient to just 0.34. Modifications were especially extensive on the vehicle's rear which was criticized by many for looking like a shoebox. New Mercedes ML parts are the G-TRONIC seven-speed transmission, optional Active Curve-Illuminating Bi-Xenon headlights, and an adjustable-height air suspension. Entry level specification brings you a 7 speed automatic transmission, Speedtronic cruise control, Antilock Brake System (ABS), Downhill Speed Regulator, and other standard Mercedes ML parts. As options, you can select an off-road ABS and an Airmatic air suspension for improved off-road handling and control. When driving in extreme conditions, you can opt for the Off Road Pro option that increases ground clearance to a maximum of 30 centimeters.

Mercedes ML has grown muscles and is living to its classification as a sports utility vehicle. MLs can now tow 3,500kg of weight, thanks to the performance of its superior engine. Mercedes is deservedly proud of its engines; and in the ML, 4-valve engines are replacing the previous lineup's 3-valve V6 and 3-valve V8. They prove a perfect foil to the wider girth of the M-Class, cranking 215 hp to move the Mercedes ML with assurance. With a gas mileage of 19.5 miles to the gallon, Mercedes ML consumes far less fuel than other SUVs with 6 cycle engines. You also don't have to worry about cargo space as an area worth 2000 liters can easily be opened when the rear seats are folded.

The second-generation MLs are proving to be worthy and better successors to the relatively young ML line. Extra attention given to the improvement of Mercedes ML parts Mercedes ML parts has surely contributed to the success of the lineup makeover. Canadian Car of the Year Awards even named the M-Class the Best New Sport Utility Vehicle in 2006. Model variants for this line include the ML320, ML350, ML430 and ML500 in the US, and the ML55 and the ML270 CDI and ML400 CDI in Europe.
