One of the most commonly overlooked steps when it comes to a great cigar is proper storage.

Would you leave that prize steak sitting out until you are ready to grill it up? Or how about that expensive bottle of wine...do you leave it uncorked for days on end until you decide to finish off the bottle? Well, no! Weather it is a fridge or a cork, there are proper ways to store the finer things in life and cigars are no exception...enter the cigar humidor and more specifically, the humidor hygrometer.

Very simply, a cigar humidor is a properly designed storage container, for you guessed it, cigars.

Humidors are most commonly made from high end woods such as Honduran Mahogany. They will sit on your desk or table and the average cigar humidor for personal use holds 30-100 cigars.

Just like the thermometer measures the temperature inside your fridge, the humidor hydrometer is used to gauge and regulate the the humidity levels inside your humidor so that your cigars are maintained and aged to perfection. The ideal humidity range for storing your cigars is between 68% to 72%. This would be at average room temperature which is 68-77 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are two types of humidor hygrometers, analog and digital. The analog versions while mostly less expensive are often less than reliable. The digital models are much more accurate ensuring a much safer environment for your cigars.

As with anything else, proper care and maintenance of both your humidor and hygrometer will be required to maintain their life and performance. Here are a few basic tips....

1. Never store in direct sunlight as this will affect the temperature and humidity.

2. When cleaning your humidor don't use water as it can damage the wood.

3. Use a cloth to clean

4. Do not sit things on top of your humidor.

So, there you have it, want the biggest bang for your cigar buck? A humidor hygrometer is the best way to allow you to enjoy your highest quality cigar both today and in the future.

Happy smoking!
