There is no better way to get to sample a number of fine wines than attending a wine tasting. It is a unique chance to taste some wines you've heard about, have an expert guide you through the tasting, learning how to apply their wine knowledge to your own tastes. Perhaps learn how to buy a wine aerator to enhance the taste and then, by the end of the evening, you will have a great idea of the type of wine that is your favourite. The info that follows will discuss how you can get involved in a wine tasting event, what to expect as well as how to learn from it.

When you are at a wine tasting, you taste the various wines with a group of individuals, sometimes familiar folks, sometimes strangers, making it a great opportunity to get ideas from others. Others attending with you will have tried different bottles of wine, maybe at a previous wine tasting, and will be more than happy to share their views on which wine goes with which type of food and how to keep wine at its best once the bottle has been opened and much more of their personal experiences.

Wine tastings happen often across the country and beyond. They are usually held in interesting locations in city centers, such as art galleries, museums, or other heritage buildings. They often have wine makers in attendance as well as other wine experts, to help you through the evening and offer advice where you need it.

Also, in addition to wine available, canapés or hors d'oevres are usually served along with it, making for a great evening, discovering new tastes and hopefully finding a new wine to fall in love with. And not only are these events a great way to get to know a new wine, it is also a great way to meet fellow wine lovers of fine wines and perhaps, by the end of the night, you could have made a new friend or two.

Normally wine tastings will only last for a few hours - any longer and you would have forgotten the first wine that you tasted. To ensure you have a good time don't drink too much wine too quickly, since you will be mixing different types of wine. You don't want to end up purchasing a wine you didn't really like or end up having a slight hangover in the morning.

There is bound to be a wine tasting event close to you. As well as wine tastings, some wine makers hold wine dinners, where you get to taste wine in conjunction with indulging in a great meal. Wine tastings come in a couple of different formats. There is the more formal, intimate wine tasting, which could feature fine wines and more information on a smaller variety of wines. There is also the less formal wine tasting where you walk around tasting a larger number of wines, but this lacks the intimacy and the expertise of the more formal gathering.
