Samsung was the first mobile company to venture in slider cellular phones. Since then it has been creating and launching a stylish slider handset one after another. Samsung E90 is no exception. Created as an upgrade of its predecessor Samsung E900, this elegant phone does not fail to impress.

At a glance the Samsung E950 is a stylish phone for the serious. Its black body with a metallic finish makes it an elegant companion in a business trip. It's compact and lightweight.

Samsung E950 is packed with the usual features. With the advent of touch screen technology, Samsung does its best to take a step into the trend with this phone.

Features

The phone is a tri-band GSM handset. It's obviously the successor of Samsung E900. It has basically the same features as its successor with a couple of tweaks. An FM radio is added.

Compared to E900, E950 has only 70 MB integrated memory. That's only a 10 MB less but for those who are concerned a microSD (transflash) can solve the problem.

The navigational system, interface, image viewer and camera were upgraded. The shutter lag experienced in E900 was also fixed. It has a vibrant display which can be configured to suit daylight conditions. Sub menus allow you to go back and forth applications without having to go back to the main menu. The fonts are more compact and sleek which gives more space for other sub menus.

In E950 the whole navigational system is touch screen enabled. The keypad adapts to the application you are currently using. If you are using the music player symbols such as play and rewind will replace directional keys. The interface can be fully configured by the user. Dialing animations are available. The camera is 3 megapixels.

Cons

Like E900 the touch screen navigation system takes a lot to get used to. The touch screen can be very sensitive. The backlight is also odd. Instead of black its red which seems out of place.

The confirmation key takes you to the web browser which is confusing and inconvenient. The camera doesn't have autofocus. It produces mediocre quality photos even with 3 megapixels. The FM radio doesn't have RDS but stereo bluetooth covers that up.

Samsung E90 is not yet available in the market. Let's just hope that these problems will get fixed in the final version. All in all it is a wonderful phone with underlying features to be worth the wait.
