If you are considering approaching schools to put in your vending machines, you need to be prepared for some issues. There are plenty of opinions out there about if they even belong in a school or not. If you talk to parents, teachers, and students you will find a mixture of different takes on the issue. For anyone with a vending machine business, you can't help but think of the possibilities for large revenues here though.

Due to recent articles that show parents what they don't know, more parents are protesting against vending machines in schools. For example on recent study showed that most parents aren't aware that their children are spending lunch money on items from the vending machines. On a daily basis, this definitely equates to a very unhealthy diet.

As a result, many parents of overweight children are blaming the schools for the problems. They claim they feed their child nutritious meals at home and provide them with money to eat at school. These parents are advocating for schools to remove vending machines altogether to eliminate the temptation and the development of bad eating habits.

In order to curb the number of students that spend their lunch money in the vending machines, many schools have chosen to turn them off during this time of the day. In the schools that don't though you can often see many students enjoying a soda and a bag of chips for lunch instead of a hot meal. Still, older students can drive to area fast food locations or convenient stores so there is no stopping them.

Of course if you look at this from the prospective of a vending machine business owner, schools are a prime location. There are plenty of hungry children running around and many of them enjoy sugary drinks and snacks. As parents and schools work together to provide kids with the best nutrition though, this prospective location could end up being a thing of the past for many vendors.

You may be asked to offer only nutritious items in your vending machines when you place them at schools though. With so much being done to promote healthy lifestyles for children, it only makes sense. Don't worry though as you will find many students still want what you have to offer. While they may prefer junk food, they aren't going to go hungry because you don't have it in the vending machine.

In schools that have made this type of switch, the students are still buying items from the vending machines. This is because they may not have had time to eat breakfast or they want something after school before football practice. When it comes to hungry kids, they may not always make the best choices but if a healthy food or drink is all that is available they will likely take it over nothing at all.

Be prepared to answer plenty of questions when you approach a school to install a vending machine. You may find the location is open due to the controversial issues. However, if you come in with fresh ideas and offering only nutritious items they may allow you to do so.
