Jake Bern is an American actor who has mainly worked in TV shows and commercials. He has acted in several TV shows such as Cold Case (CBS), Gilmore Girls (WB) and LA Dragnet (ABC) and commercials including MTV, Sprint, Axe Body Spray and Domino's. He has also shown his acting caliber live on stage in many theaters shows worldwide. Jake has received several acting awards that include the Dean's Advisory Board Award, the Dana Lind Drama Award and the Florence Threser Theater Award.

Early Days

Jake Bern was born in 1979 in Oakland, California. His father is a librarian. His mother passed away when he was an infant. His stepmother is a therapist. He spent his childhood days in Berkeley, California. He attended Wavy Gravy's Camp Winnarainbow, a performing arts camp, as a child where he learned to juggle and talk in funny voices. His love for acting was greatly inspired by this camp. He spent his teen years acting in regional theater and independent films throughout the Bay Area.

Acting Foundation

In 1997, Jake got accepted at UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television. At the school, he did around 50 theatrical productions and dozens of student films. During the summer, he used to travel to different places such as France, Havana, Cuba and NYC for theater shows. He got his first Hollywood Audition for the feature film "Wonder Boys" directed by Curtis Hansen. But Jake decided to finish his college and have a degree in his hand before starting the auditions for TV shows or films.

In July 2002, Jake was a part of the group that performed in Natalie Avital's theatrical premiere "Voice of the Hero" at Complex Theater. They got great reviews for the show from LA Times, Backstage West and also got Critic's Pick in LA Weekly. He also got selected for shooting an MTV commercial that was a Public Service Announcement promoting safe sex and HIV awareness. Jake also got the chance to work with great actors Hector Elizondo, Rebecca Pidgeon and Jeffrey Donovan in LA Theater Works production of Budd Schulberg's classic "On the Waterfront" where he played Jimmy Conroy.

More Movies And More Acting

In April 2003, he did a film called "Iowa" with Rosanna Arquette. He played a crank addict Nick Slavens who writes poems about the gnomes he sees and then lights himself on fire.

In August 2003, Jake got his first TV show where he got selected for guest appearance for the Warner Brother's show "Gilmore Girls". He played "a really cute ice cream boy".

In September 2003, he acted in a cop show - CBS's "Cold Case" where he worked with Kathryn Morris and Silas Weir Mitchell. He was a lead actor in this show. Jake shot for a national Sprint commercial in January 2004 and a national Domino commercial for both TV and radio in April 2004.

Jake got the chance to act in a David Miller directed comedy movie "My Suicide" along with Gabriel Sunday. In 2005, he got selected as a supporting actor opposite Brett Ryland for the feature film "The Riot Act".

Through the following years Jake Bern acted in "The Double Born" and commercials including Axe Body Spray as well as a TV show "The Daily Sports Show".

In 2009, he shot two pilots - Die Cupid Die and Four Now - as well as three national commercials - Avon, Axe Body Spray, and Cafepress.com. Currently, he is pitching a pilot that he co-wrote with Mike Barber called The Daily Sports Show, a 30 minute sketch comedy which combines ESPN with SNL. Also, he is writing two features with well-known documentary director, Jim Dzuira.
