SAP B1 fits to majority of small and medium size businesses. We often see customer requirements to develop user interface custom features via SBO SDK or Software Development Kit, and later on, instead of using customization, users find the way of entering their sophisticated transactions in SB1 directly. We would like to give you several examples and how this ERP application fits:
1. Rental Contracts. If you think what rental contract is - it is not something that you would think is possible in out-of-the-box generic accounting application. Let us walk you through how you can do Rentals in standard SB1 interface. Service module has so-called Warranty contracts. Create in Inventory control rental sales item with serial number (priced at the level of rental contract), associate warranty contract template with it and sell to the customer. Then create Sales Order, where simply allocate all the rental items, associated with the rental contract (in this case Warranty contract). Create user alert, which will trigger at the end of the term of the renting contract, asking user to cancel Sales Order. What happens from the business logic standpoint - you allocate or commit rental items to warranty contract, however they are staying in your inventory and on your GL balance, and so they are not available during the time of the contract. At the end of the contract you can even decide to extend the contract and set new user alert, if required

2. Advanced logistics and warehouse management: pick and pack. Pick & pack is available in vanilla version of SB1. It is useful for small business where business logic requires you to track the content of each box, that you pack and ship to your customers

3. Warranty and Service module. Here it fits to the scenarios where you sell something which is under your warranty or even when you are subcontracted to support warranty contract by somebody else. You can either cover or bill out such expenses as parts, labor, travel

4. Disassembly Production Order. In discrete manufacturing, imagine scenario, when your customer returns something which was specially manufactured for him. You know that it has good components and they could be reused for future assembly orders. SAP Business One has disassembly production order, allowing you to disassemble previously manufactured item and place parts back to the respective bins and shelves

5. CRM and Sales by business partner product line. SB1 CRM module allows you to categorize your opportunities by partner, which is not your customer. For example, if you sell computer products from Microsoft, Apple, Sun Microsystems, you can categorize your opportunities by these strategic partners, or in essence vendors
