Real estate is big business and it's a business where curb appeal is usually the main attraction. The most important part of a home can often be the exterior where first impressions can set the entire mood for the rest of the home. Let's just face it, no one wants to buy an ugly house. In fact, most people won't step foot inside a house unless it catches their eye on the outside. A good looking house on the outside can emotionally appeal to home buyers and sometimes be the difference maker in selling a home or having it sit on the market for months and months. With the housing recession of 2008 in full gear, these words hit hard with builders and real estate agents across the nation. Window boxes are an affordable way to take a home's exterior to a whole new level and many builders and real estate agents are using them to attract home buyers. Window boxes can be a relatively affordable accent to add to a home that can make dramatic changes to the outside that will pay their value multiple fold.

Wooden window boxes can be purchased in the $50 - $250 price range and often just a couple of these will make a dramatic change to the face of a home. Also, rot free PVC window boxes have come down in price and made it that much more affordable to dress up a home and make it more sellable. Many of these look like wood and avoid the rotting and maintenance issues that wood have. Expect to pay $70 - $400 for one of these upgrades. It's almost always a good move to spend money on the outside of a home. The money you can make back just by getting it off the market quicker is almost always worth the investment. There's nothing that makes a real estate agent smile more than to have a house complemented on by the home buyer before they even step foot in the door.

The window box is a secret strategy and a good weapon to have in the arsenal as a real estate agent and a builder. It's a good way to add landscaping that puts permanent value in a home and it's such a rarity, that you will set a house apart immediately in a good way. From a home buyers point of view, we make a list of houses that we consider as potential and we often list the pros and cons that each have to offer. Whenever you can put a house on the list that has something unique and that adds curb appeal for a reasonable price you having a winning strategy in real estate and you have a house that will not stay on the market for very long.
