The Platinum Spoon Story

Her surname exudes society. The gracefulness with which she moves, her mannerisms and impeccable taste for the fine things in life leads one to assume that this 49 year old woman's heritage is strong in royalty, wealth and privilege. To the contrary, Madison De'Couture was not raised by an affluent family with chamber maids and chauffeurs. Nor did she experience boarding schools. Her poise alone will lead you to believe she attended charm school at a relatively young age. Upon meeting her, one is surprised to learn that this woman of style and class experienced a childhood not of spoiled abundance, but of extreme poverty.

Growing up in a Midwestern factory town, Madison was fascinated with the lifestyles of those more fortunate than her own family. One thing she noted at a very young age is that many of those with a life of privilege simply took for granted what they had. Often dining on navy bean soup, fried potatoes and cornbread three or four days a week, she was always thankful for what she and her family had. When a need arose that could not be afforded, her Mother would forever quote "I'm sorry you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth."

Madison didn't want a silver spoon. Madison preferred platinum. She believed then and still believes now that everyone deserves nice things. On a business trip in December 2005, Madison was inspired to start her own business based on her belief and a late night stroll down Manhattan's world famous Fifth Avenue.

The Heritage Park Hotel across from Central Park placed Madison in the middle of Manhattan's shopping Mecca. It was her first trip to The Big Apple, and the noise of the city even late at night kept her from sleep. Dressing warmly, she decided to take a leisurely stroll down Fifth Avenue.

Stopping at each display window, she studied the beautiful outrageously priced goods so creatively displayed. Even with her decent paying corporate job, Madison knew she could not afford the displayed items. She eyed a tiny metal handbag not much larger than her wallet and strained to view the half hidden price tag of $2380. As with many times in her adult life, she heard her Mother's voice at the back of her mind, "I'm sorry you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth." At that moment, the wheels began turning. And later on that cold winter New York eve, Madison made the decision to allow everyone the opportunity to afford something beautiful, something luxurious, some small thing that would give pride of ownership.

Today, Madison De'Couture announces her new Online Boutique, Shop 5th Avenue. From beautifully organza wrapped bath salts at less than $15 to the $17,000 Diamond Baby Pacifier so generously gifted to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter Baby Shiloh, Shop 5th Avenue is an experience. Mink Teddy Bears that would sell on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue for no less than $2000 can be purchased for less than $500 and Shop 5th Avenue's Mink Teddy Bear is Custom Made to order and the bear comes with a life history that is created specifically for the recipient.
